Hurricane Trouble for Hawaii

The cool weather last week in Northeast Ohio has been replaced with much more seasonable temperatures this week. The deep trough that has plagued the region for much of July has relaxed and allowed, if only temporary, more seasonable air on to spread across the area. A large area of temperatures in 90’s stretches across much of the southern tier of the country with 100 degree temperatures spreading into Texas from the desert Southwest. The tropics have become active this week with the second hurricane of the season having formed in the Atlantic and two hurricanes approaching Hawaii.

Currently high pressure is controlling the weather across the area. High temperatures today will be a few degrees on either side of 80. A storm system is moving through the central part of the nation generating an area of showers and thunderstorms.

Hurricane Iselle with 80 mph winds is moving towards the Hawaiian island chain. Hurricane conditions are expected to over spread the big island tonight and tropical storm conditions will spread across the rest of the islands during the day Friday as the storm weakens. The last effects of the storm will end early Saturday on Kauai. Have rains will be largest impact for the islands though strong winds will be felt at higher elevations.

Following quickly behind Hurricane Iselle is Hurricane Julio with 105 mph winds. Currently it looks like the system will track just to the north of the Islands but close enough to bring them tropical storm conditions.  Once again heavy rains will be the main concern for the islands.

High temperatures will continue to rise into the lower 80’s for the weekend. A system passing to the south will make its closest approach on Saturday spreading high clouds and a possible shower and thunderstorm; especially the further south you go in the State.

The next system to impact the area will not arrive until Tuesday. At that time there will be an increase in chances for rain and high temperatures will fall back into the 70's after the cool front passes.

Summer Polar Vortex??

The past week has been rather cool for Northern Ohio. Though news of a summer vortex swirled in the news, the cool conditions were simply the result of a strong trough of low pressure moving across the Eastern USA. The past seven days featured a day time high that remained in the 60’s and a pleasant weekend; although Saturday was occasionally rainy. A brief warm-up commenced on Sunday and today much of the area is experiencing seasonable temperatures with highs in the 80’s.  Temperatures will peak on Tuesday before temperatures return to a few degrees below normal on Thursday. By the weekend temperatures will return to near normal levels.

Today the area is experiencing warming conditions as high pressure is allowing warm and muggy conditions to overspread the area. High temperatures have risen back into the 80’s area wide. A storm system is organizing over the Upper Plains and will likely generate a severe weather outbreak later today across this area.  Tuesday will be the hottest day of the week as the heat located over the middle portion of the country moves east. High temperatures tomorrow for the area will be a few degrees on either side of 90 degrees.

On Wednesday a cool front will approach the area late in the day. Before the front arrives temperatures should rise into the middle 80’s. Showers and thunderstorms will move through the area late Wednesday into the overnight hours. The front will usher in much cool temperatures on Thursday as high temperatures will remain in the 70’s under sunny skies. Similar conditions will maintain for Friday.

On Saturday temperatures will begin to warm back to around 80 as the high pressure moves off to the east of the area. On Sunday the next storm system will approach with a threat of showers and thunderstorms.
