April Tornado Outbreak

Sunny and cool conditions for Northern Ohio was in stark contrast to the dangerous weather occurring outside of the Ohio River Valley. Friday  afternoon numerous tornadoes struck eastern North Carolina resulting in one death. On Sunday reports of dozens tornadoes from Nebraska south to Arkansas resulted in eighteen deaths.  The area to the north of Little Rock, Arkansas was the hardest with what was potentially a long track violent tornado. Most of the fatalities occurred with this tornado. Today the system has spread light rain into Northeast Ohio which has held temperatures into the 50's, A tornado outbreak is currently occurring in Mississippi and this activity will spread east into Alabama this evening. On Tuesday the Cleveland area will be under the threat of scattered showers with the slight chance of severe thunderstorms. A tornado outbreak is anticipated for southern Mississippi into central Alabama.

Sunday tornadoes occurred from Nebraska and Iowa south unto Arkansas. The most violent and deadliest tornado occurred just north of Little Rock Arkansas.

Today very active weather is occurring east of a system spinning across Nebraska. Light rain moved into the Northeast Ohio by mid-day in advance of a warm front. A tornado outbreak begun during the afternoon hours in Mississippi.

A large area is at risk for severe thunderstorms today. The area at highest risk for strong long lasting tornadoes is from Central Mississippi into Northern Alabama. Those in this area are advised to take proper precautions to save their lives; this is a very dangerous situation.

On Tuesday, the system will move slightly further east . High temperatures should rise well into the 60's for Northeast Ohio.

Severe weather will be possible from Ohio south to the Gulf of Mexico. The greatest threat for tornadoes will be in Mississippi and Alabama with a chance for strong long lasting tornadoes.

Unsettled Period

After an early week cool down, seasonable temperatures have returned to close out the week. A fast moving system  is currently moving through the area with light rain. A weak cool front will move though later this evening but the cooler push of air will arrive tomorrow. High temperatures this afternoon will rise into the lower 60's once the rain ends. High temperatures over the weekend into the beginning of next week will fall back into the middle to upper 50's. The weather pattern will be come unsettle as a strong upper level low slowly moves through the Midwest and eventually generating rounds of rain for the area while temperatures rise a few degrees above normal. This system will generate day after day of severe weather starting late Saturday until at least Tuesday.

A weak storm system is spreading light rain across the area early this morning. Once the rain ends, temperatures will rise into the lower 60's. This system will generate severe weather, including possible tornadoes, for eastern North Carolina and Virginia.

Saturday will begin the first day of an extended severe weather outbreak. A slow moving upper level system will begin to push into the central Plains late Saturday. Severe storms with possible tornadoes will be possible from Nebraska south into Texas. High temperatures for Northeast Ohio will fall back into the middle 50's.

Conditions on Sunday will be very favorable for a tornado outbreak centered on the Arklatex region. Rich gulf moisture will be well established over the region as the upper level trough moves into the region to help destabilize the atmosphere.

Sunday the Arklatex area is currently under a moderate risk for severe weather which may include several strong tornadoes. Persons in the region should stay alert to the rapidly changing  life threatening weather conditions.

On Monday the storm system will move slightly further to the east. Conditions will again be favorable for severe weather including tornadoes across the Mississippi River Valley.  Locally temperatures will rise to near seasonable levels and chances of rain will rise overnight Monday.

Nice Easter Weekend

As advertised, the cold snap earlier this week did not last long. Most of Northeast Ohio received 1-3 inches of snowfall early Tuesday and few locations recorded record low temperatures Wednesday morning. By Thursday temperatures were back into the middle 60's; which are above average for this time of the year. Today a weak cold front is approaching from the west that will trim temperatures back into the 50's for Saturday before they rebound to near 70 for Sunday. Another front will move through late Monday and that will bring a good chance of rain and will send bring temperatures back into the 50's for Tuesday.

A weak cold front will move through later today dropping temperatures into the 50's for Saturday. At the same time a low pressure system will move north out of the Gulf of Mexico spreading heavy rain into the Southeast.

On Easter Sunday the area will be under flow out of the south and west. Sunny skies will prevail and temperatures will rise to near 70 degrees; a picture perfect day! The warmth will continue into Monday as a front approaches from the north and west.

Overnight Monday into Tuesday a cold front will drop through the area spreading rain into the area. Temperatures will drop back into the 50's for mid week before warming up as the weekend approaches.

As next weekend approaches, the area will be under a ride of high pressure that will allow temperatures to rise above normal as we close out the month. After many false starts, it looks like spring is finally going to hand around.

Quick Cold Snap

The area experienced  much needed warmth this past weekend. High temperatures on Saturday and Sunday soared into the middle and upper 70's and dry conditions prevailed. Today, the area was still under warm conditions with early high temperatures in the lower 70's. Rain showers and strong winds signal a change is in our cards in the next 24-hours. Later this evening a strong cold front will move through and Arctic air will rush in. Rain showers will change to snow showers by sunrise and tomorrow's daytime temperatures will hold in the upper 30's. This cold snap will pass very quickly as temperatures begin to moderate on Wednesday as the area returns to a flow out of the southwest. Seasonable temperatures will close out the current week.

A strong cold front is moving through the central Great Lakes region this Monday evening. Rain showers have been falling through out the day with strong wind gusts occurring early. This front will send temperatures plummeting overnight

A wave of low pressure in combination with very cold air moving into the region will set the stage of snow showers Tuesday. Air temperatures in the 30's will be more than cold enough to support snow but the warm ground may hinder snow accumulations.

There is a slim chance for more than four (4) inches of snow to fall in the next 24-hours. Its more likely accumulations generally will be an inch or two with higher amounts falling on the higher terrain in Northeast Ohio.

Wednesday the cold air will be east of the area and high pressure moving through will set the stage for a seasonable later part of the week. High temperatures on Wednesday will remain in the 40's before moderating to around 60 degrees on Thursday and Friday.

Finally a Springlike Weekend

Today will be the beginning of what is probably the best weekend weather wise since last October. Today's high temperatures will be nearly ten (10) degrees lower than the low 70's experienced on Thursday. A week cold front with light rain accompanied the front late last night and early this morning. If sunshine is able to break out temperatures will rise to around 60 degrees later today. The real story will be the warm weather on tap this week. Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will be in the upper 60's to lower 70's area wide! Saturday will be mostly sunny with chances of rain increasing through the day Sunday. Most of the rain should hold off until late Sunday into early Monday as a strong cold front moves through the area.

A week cold front has moved through the area overnight dropping the temperatures nearly ten (1) degrees. The expected temperatures around 60 degrees are still near to slightly above normal for this time of the year.

Saturday the area will be under a strong flow out of the south. Precipitation will remain far from the area as sunny conditions allow temperatures to rise to near 70 degrees!

Sunday the area will still be in the warm sector as the strong flow out of the south continues. Temperatures will rise well into the 70's before chances of rain increase late in the day. A strong system will move into the Plain States and will generate thunderstorms that may possibly reach severe limits with isolated tornadoes.

Showers and thunderstorms will spread across the area on Monday as a strong storm system moves slowly through the area. If the rains become heavy, flooding will be good possibility along rivers and stream in the area.   Much colder air will arrive on winds out of the North on Tuesday with the snowbelt areas possibly seeing accumulating snows overnight. This appears to be a quick shot of cold area, but additonal details will be clear early next week.

Unsettled Pattern

An unsettled weather pattern is maintaining wet conditions across the area. The storm system responsible for heavy rain across the area on Thursday also produced approximately a dozen tornadoes across the mid-section of the country. Thankfully no deaths were reported from the tornadoes. The area experienced seasonal and dry weather conditions during the weekend. Today a quick moving system is spreading a shield of rain through the area with severe thunderstorms affecting the Southeast. The system will move through overnight leaving slightly cooler conditions for Tuesday and Wednesday with highs temperatures expected to be around 50. Light rain is likely early Tuesday. On Thursday the area will be under a flow out of the south and west which will propel high temperatures well into the 60's. A weak front will work through Thursday night bringing temperatures back to seasonable levels.

A storm system is quickly moving north out of the Gulf of Mexico spreading rain across the area. Strong and at times severe thunderstorms will affect the Southeast during the day

On Thursday a system to the northwest will generate a strong flow out of the southwest. The breezy conditions will bring high temperates well into the 60's.

A weak cool front will move through overnight Thursday dropping temperatures back to seasonable levels with high temperatures expected to be in the upper 50's.

While it appears the weather is finally transitioning into spring, its good to remember that snow is still possible this time of the year. Seven (7) years ago the area was in the middle of a heavy late season lake-effect snow event. Areas east of Cleveland received more than 30 inches of snow from this event!

The 40th anniversary of the Super Tornado Outbreak of 1974 last week is a tragic reminder of the volatility of Spring time weather.  This extremely and deadly violent outbreak is still the record holder of violent tornadoes within a 24-hour period.

First 70 Degree Day of the Year!

After winter visited the area over the weekend with 3-6 inches of snow and strong winds on Saturday evening, the area is basking in spring like temperatures today. Sunday's system began as some light rain but quickly transitioned over to heavy and blinding snow. The conditions Saturday evening into the night were nothing  less than miserable. Thankfully the system moved out quickly and temperatures moderated on Sunday under sunny conditions. The weather has continued to get better with today being the warmest day since October. Yes Cleveland, it hit 70 degrees today, three days after a heavy snowfall. The wonderful weather will be quickly departing as a very wet period begins on Wednesday.

A storm system to the west is pumping very warm air from the south into the region. A cool front will  move through overnight before stalling along the Ohio River.

Wednesday will be a much different day across the area as a much cool air mass will be moving in. High temperatures will be in the lower 50's and light rain will begin to fall across the region later in the day. To the west in the  middle part of the area, severe thunderstorms will be possible as the energy ejects out of the Rocky Mountains.

Rainfall will continue to fall across much of the area on Thursday and high temperatures reach near 50 degrees. The cool and damp conditions will prevail as the area will be north of a warm front.  Additionally, severe weather including possible tornadoes will be affecting the mid-section of the country.

Update A severe weather outbreak appears to be on tap for Thursday. A large area is at risk for severe thunderstorms with the highest likelihood across Missouri and Arkansas. Large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes will be possible during the afternoon and evening hours. Residents there should be on alert and take cover if dangerous conditions approach.

On Friday the area should make it into the warm sector as a warm front lifts north of the region as the main low pressure tracks into the Great Lakes region. Temperatures may rise into the 60's which could lead to conditions conducive for severe storms. Stay tuned to the latest weather alerts as this may be a dangerous situation.
