Active by Mid-Week

Another warm and beautiful weekend is in store for the region. Yesterday the area experienced a brief cool down after a weak backdoor front move through the region. Today the region is back under the influence of flow out of the south and west. High temperatures today will rise into the 70’sand  will be near 80 degrees by Sunday. The pattern will become more active as we head into next week as a zonal pattern will push a storm system into the region by mid-week.

Currently the weather over the region is being controlled by a weak high pressure that is moving off to the east after pushing a weak cool front through early Thursday. Warm southerly flow is taking over which will elevate temperatures through the 70's over the weekend.

On Sunday a storm system will move into the Central and Northern Plain states generating thunderstorms that may reach severe limits with  large hail, damaging winds a few tornadoes. This has the potential to be a low end tornado outbreak for that region and residents should stay alert to rapidly changing weather conditions.

On Wednesday the storm system will move into the central Great Lakes region with showers and thunderstorms. Depending on the timing of the frontal passage severe storms will be possible for many locations.

In the extended, warm conditions look to continue for much of the nation. The exception may be the Northern Plans where an active storm pattern could lead to cooler than normal temperatures.

Delightful Weekend

The weather this Memorial Day Week will start out cool on Friday but will warm each day as high temperatures rise through the 70’s.  High pressure will remain in control for the next four or five days keeping thunderstorms to the west and south of the region. The region should be a washed in sunshine throughout the weekend with the first chance of rain not arriving until late Monday into Tuesday.

Currently high pressure is control of weather providing cool and comfortable weather. An upper level low in the West is generating thunderstorms, at times severe, from Western Texas into Eastern Colorado. The Southeastern states are experiencing very warm temperatures with highs topping 90 degrees in many locations.

On Sunday the high pressure will be moving east of the region allowing warmer air to spread back in to the area with high temperatures well into the 70's. The thunderstorms will remain far to the west of the region.

On Tuesday a weak system will begin to affect the region bringing a chance of thunderstorms throughout the day. Temperatures will be warm with highs remaining near 80 degrees.

Looking ahead, it appears that summer has finally taken hold of most of the nation. Temperatures for the next 6-10 and even 8-14 days look to be above normal for most of the nation.

Another Cool Weekend

A slow moving system and cool front has finally pushed through the area. The area is current under cool northerly flow that will last right through the weekend.  This cool trough of low pressure was responsible for snow on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan yesterday and early morning snow showers to the west of Chicago today. This is in stark contrast to the record high temperatures that have been baking California from San Francisco south through San Diego this week. This is all the result of a high amplitude upper level pattern moving across the United States this week.  Over the weekend the western ridge will break down and the eastern trough will slowly move east.

The slow moving system responsible for the heavy rain and severe storms this week has finally tracked through the Ohio Valley.  A cool upper level trough will persist over the Great Lakes all weekend with low pressures generating light precipitation tracking quickly through from time to time. Temperatures all weekend will average below normal for the region.

By Tuesday high pressure will be moving east of the region allowing a southern flow to develop and a moderation of temperatures to more seasonable levels. As a system moves into the Plains, chances for severe weather will be in increasing there.  A more active pattern appears to be developing across the country  and early indications are the Ohio Valley will be wet and seasonable warm for the next week or two.

Record High Temperaure!

The record high temperature was smashed today at Cleveland as the air temperature soared to 88 degrees (as of 4pm). This easily eclipses the old record for day of 86 degrees and is the hottest day so far this calendar year. The heat today comes after strong and severe thunderstorms moved through the area late Monday evening with heavy flooding rains, large hail, and reports of funnel clouds. At this time no tornadoes were confirm across the area. This is the same system that produced numerous tornadoes across the mid-section of the county on Saturday and Sunday. Today will make the last day in our recent summer preview as a cold front will move through and stall nearby tomorrow. The next several days will feature a threat for rain, possibly heavy and temperatures falling to below normal levels by Thursday.

Currently the Upper Ohio Valley is in warm sector of a approaching storm system. Temperatures are very warm with middle and upper 80's common. The cool front will move east with scattered thunderstorms preceding it.

Wednesday the front will stall near the Ohio and Pennsylvania border. Scattered rain early in the day will end as a storm system forms in the lower Mississippi Valley. High temperatures will be around 70 degrees.

On Thursday the storm system will move into the Ohio and track near the central lake shore. Heavy rain and severe thunderstorms will be possible until the system moves through. The upper low will not move much from the Great Lakes through the weekend setting the stage for an unsettled and cool weekend.

First 80 Degree Day of the Year!!

Summer conditions have made an appearance across Northern Ohio today as temperatures soared into the middle 80’s.  Friday will be a near repeat as high temperatures will be near 80 but a threat of thunderstorms will increase from west to east late in the day. Warm conditions will last through the weekend even after a weak cool front moves through the area on Saturday.  Temperatures through early next week will continue to be above average with an occasional threat of thunderstorms.

Currently a low pressure system is pushing out into the central plans. The Ohio Valley region is firmly in the warm sector with a warm front pushing north of the region. Severe thunderstorms with possible tornadoes will affect areas from Minnesota south into Texas.

On Saturday a weak cool front will be moving through the area with a chance of thunderstorms especially early in the day.  High temperatures during the weekend will remain in the 70’s.

On Monday another system will begin to move out into the Central Plains. This will produce another round of possible severe thunderstorms in the middle part of the nation. High temperatures will rise to near 80 degrees over many parts of Northern Ohio as warm air remains in place.

Cool and Quiet

The last several days of April contained very active weather for the eastern half of the nation. A tornado outbreak  reached its climax on April 28 and heavy rain lead to flooding on the last two days of the month. Currently the weather across the country is much more quiet with cool conditions in the East and the West baking under much above normal temperatures. Over the weekend the cool temperatures across the East will maintain as the heat loosens it grip on the West and moves into the central part of the nation.

The most tornadoes of the outbreak occurred on April 28 and the activity was centered on Alabama and Mississippi. Preliminary more than one hundred tornadoes occurred across the nation and numerous people lost their lives as a result of the storms. An additional dozen of tornadoes occurred on April 29th, mostly in North Carolina. The total death toll from this tornado event stands at thirty-five.

Currently the region is under the influence of an upper level trough of low pressure that is maintaining cool conditions over the area. High temperatures in Northeast Ohio will reach near 60 today. Heat will continue over the southwest portion of the nation with many locations in the 90's to near 100.

Another cool front will work through the Great Lakes region overnight Saturday. There will be chance of rain with the frontal passage and high temperatures in Northern Ohio will stay in the upper 50's throughout the weekend. The heat located over the southwest portion of the nation will move into the southern Plains with temperatures there soaring into the 90's.

Monday will be the last day under cool conditions in Northern Ohio before a warm-up occurs. High temperatures will be near 60 Monday and Tuesday before a pronounced warm-up begins in earnest on Wednesday.

The last half of next week should find the Ohio Valley experiencing above normal temperatures as a ridge of high pressure becomes center over the Southeast. Severe weather and heavy rain will become a possibility as a storm system over the west begins to move east and a stationary front boundary is located nearby.
